The Bustin EQ, is one of the latest additions to the Bustin NY Boards lineup.. The deck is designed as the ultimate foot locking freeride experience. The board maximizes footspace, allowing the feet to stand near the trucks, enhancing control and board feel, while incorporating radial drops and killer concave to lock onto your feet like bindings on a snowboard...almost. Rocker throughout the platform further locks you into the center of the deck and lowers the center of the deck to the ground, making this deck just as easy to push across town as many dropped decks on the market while still giving you the control of a topmount deck. Designed to be a rock-solid stiffy, giving you supreme control at big speeds and extreme grip through big slides!
DESIGN: The EQ is a topmount deck that aimed to maximize footspace and lock in feet with an extreme but comfortable concave. Much thought was placed into how and where the foot bends, and the shape of the concave reflects this. After the baseline shape and bends of the EQ were in place and the drops had been established, the focus was turned into how to bend the wood back into a shape that would allow the addition of kicktails. Deep thought and more gong provided us with the answer--a secret we'll only tell providing the right circumstances, those circumstances likely involving buying the right people a few beers and shouting "Wiggle me timbers!" at the top of your lungs. All good things come with a price.
The progressive radial concave starts out very mellow in the center of the deck and increases in intensity near the edges, creating a comfortable standing platform for front facing pushing and locking you in tight in sideways stance. The concave tops out at 9/16" near the deck's shoulders. The radial drops lift the center of the deck where the trucks mount, creating a shelf that keeps your feet from shifting. Bending and lifting the wood out of the center of the deck allows concave to be retained throughout the length of the standing platform. Many freeriders will find that they can simply spin in circles, toeside and heelside, on this deck without ever adjusting the feet. And that's the idea.
With all the bends in this board, there is hardly a weak spot to be found, and for this reason, Bustin calls the 9-ply EQ a downhill/freeride deck . It is rock solid and will last you many moons providing no evil automotive spirits find their way on top of it.
CONSTRUCTION: The construction on the EQ is 9-plys of sturdy, Canadian rock maple and is made in Bustin's North Carolina (USA) manufacturing facility. It is cold pressed for extra strength using our special composite blend glue. After fully curing, the mold is CNC cut and drilled. Wheel wells are then hand sanded and the board is sanded smooth. The board the goes through a wood finishing process which includes several cycles of sealing and sanding.
SETUPS: The EQ was designed to fit 70mm wheels on most of today's popular trucks without bite. Larger wheels tend to be much less smooth during sliding, so for a freeride specific deck, we decided to incorporate as much footspace as possible rather than make room for wheels that don't really play into its strong points. If you do choose to downhill on this deck, you can set it up with 75mm wheels, and while static bite will be possible with medium to soft bushings, you shouldn't find yourself taking turns sharp enough at speed for bite to be an issue. At any rate, use good judgment and exercise caution. Bustin, and we agree, particularly like Paris trucks, Calibers, Bears, and Indy 215s on this board for cast options. Look into our Surf-Rodz INDeeSZ and RKP collabs for some truly awesome freeride and DH/freeride setups. Remember, with the right bushings, almost anything is possible!
POSSIBILITIES: Whether you're flying down the hills of the Gold Coast or pushing your way to a slide hill in Bathurst, you'll find the EQ to be extremely comfortable and ready to perform. The possibilities of the EQ end where the Boombox begins, and vice versa. The smaller, 36 1/2 inch platform makes this deck excellent for commuting, and with the truck mounts at the end of the deck, you can drag this board behind you on your way back up a hill or around the subway station. We didn't weigh this deck down with too many features; we didn't have to. You'll find yourself upping your game from the first time you step foot on it, as we have found ourselves doing the same. See you on the hill!
